A Salvaged Thurrock: Online took place during the summer of 2020, when the country was coming out of the first lockdown due to Covid-19. Over the course of 5 weeks, we held free online workshops for local young people aged 14-20 where they learnt skills in: scenic design, script-writing, song-writing and puppetry. The workshops were themed around Thurrock’s own little piece of forgotten history, Belmont Castle. During the workshops, the young people created illustrations, original scripts and songs which we collected and turned into a digital work-in-progress performance. It follows the construction of Belmont Castle through the eyes of the man who commissioned it, Zachariah Button VI. Funded by Thurrock CVS VSDF Culture, Art and Heritage Fund.
